Business Management for Artists

Students will learn to apply an entrepreneurial mindset to diverse career pathways in the arts. It will serve as an introduction for artists to business, trend analysis, leadership, marketing, branding, and legal issues in the arts. Students will adapt multiple business strategies throughout the course to engage with various facets of the arts industry successfully. Students will also interact with experts with diverse perspectives and backgrounds and explore both nonprofit and for-profit business models in and out of the United States and overseas.

Financial Management for Artists

Students will learn to apply strategic financial thinking to explore diverse career pathways and maximize opportunities within the arts. This course provides artists with foundational knowledge and practical tools to manage their finances effectively. It covers key topics such as financial statements, cash flow management, budgeting, pricing strategies, and funding options, focusing on venture capital and angel investing in art. Through lectures, case studies, and hands-on projects, students will develop critical financial skills to support sustainable artistic careers.

Arts in the Cities

Students will explore how art shapes and transforms cities around the globe. Through case studies, lectures, and discussions, students will examine the cultural, economic, and social impacts of art on urban development. From public art installations to museum districts and creative hubs, students will analyze how artists, institutions, and communities collaborate to redefine city identities. This course offers a global perspective, encouraging students to compare different models and strategies across diverse regions.

Contract and Negotiations

Students will develop practical skills in reading, drafting, and negotiating contracts within the arts industry. Students will learn key legal concepts, explore negotiation theories, and engage in real-world exercises to strengthen their negotiation strategies. Topics include contract essentials, intellectual property clauses, licensing agreements, and dispute resolution. By the end of the course, students will be able to critically analyze agreements and apply negotiation techniques confidently in both creative and business contexts.

Classical Music and Visual Art Comparison

Students will explore the historical development of classical music and visual art, studying their similarities and differences across key periods. Moving chronologically from antiquity to contemporary times, students will analyze how cultural, political, and philosophical movements influenced both art forms. Through comparative studies and thematic discussions, students will discover parallels in style, structure, and meaning, gaining a deeper interdisciplinary understanding of creative expression.

Art of Appreciating Arts

Students will develop the skills to appreciate art across various forms and disciplines. Through lectures, guided discussions, and experiential learning, students will learn to analyze visual and performing arts critically and thoughtfully. Topics include elements of design, principles of aesthetics, and cultural contexts. The course aims to foster a deeper personal connection to art, encouraging students to engage with creative works more thoughtfully and meaningfully in their daily lives.
